About the position
Our client, a leading South African company specializing in the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of mineral processing plants worldwide, is seeking a skilled Process Engineer or Metallurgist to join their team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in an upcoming project scheduled to commence in August 2024, with training beginning in June/July 2024.
- Location / Duration: 2 months training in Johannesburg (South Africa), then based onsite at a mine in Arandis, Namibia
- Position Type: Contract (3 - 6 months duration.)
- Environment: The role involves working in a 24/7 operation, on a shift-basis.
The Role Overview:
- Process Optimization: Continuously analyze and optimize the metallurgical processes within the plant to improve efficiency, recovery rates, and overall performance.
- Test Work Supervision: Oversee and conduct test work on the demo plant, ensuring that experiments are carried out safely, accurately, and according to the established protocols.
- Data Analysis: Analyze data from test work and plant operations to identify trends, areas for improvement, and potential issues. Use statistical methods and process simulation software to interpret results.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot process-related problems that may arise during test work or plant operations, and implement corrective actions to address them.
- Equipment Selection and Optimization: Assist in the selection, installation, and optimization of equipment and machinery used in the metallurgical processes, ensuring that they meet the required specifications and performance criteria.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and develop and implement strategies to enhance overall process efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
- Quality Control: Monitor product quality throughout the metallurgical process, ensuring that it meets the required standards and specifications.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards in all aspects of plant operations and test work.
- Client Communication: Communicate effectively with clients regarding test work progress, results, and recommendations. Provide technical support and assistance as needed to address client inquiries and concerns.
- Shift Work: Work on rotating shifts as required, including nights and weekends, to ensure continuous operation of the demo plant and test work activities.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of test work procedures, results, and findings. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing key findings, conclusions, and recommendations for both internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements - Degree or Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering
- ± 3 years experience in plant operations and/or test work within a Mining Environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Namibian citizenship is preferred; however, South African candidates will also be considered.
