About the position

As part of the GIBB group of companies, with shareholding by EDF, GIBB Power specialises in several areas of engineering including thermal and hydraulic engineering, electricity transmission and distribution networks, solar and wind power. These areas support the rapid development of these energies throughout Africa.


This Subsidiary of the GIBB Group is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of a Senior Engineer (Electrical)

The below listed responsibilities and requirements will be assessed during the interview stages and will further be confirmed with the relevant professional references that you currently are or have reported to in your previously two positions.


Core purpose:


To actively participate in and lead as required the development and delivery of core engineering outputs to Power, Energy and Mining services solutions. This includes the designing of renewable energy systems, Transmission/Distribution and Mining sector particular to power system engineering.


Key Performance Areas:


Engineering


  • General knowledge of Control / RTU Systems, Switchgear, Transformers, Substation and Distribution/Transmission from cradle to grave.

  • Good Technical knowledge of Power Systems, protection and instrumentation, and renewable energy systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical power systems software (e.g., Electrical Transient Analysis Program (ETAP/ DigSilent).

  • Perform complex system studies (e.g., short circuit, load flow, stability, motor starting, harmonics, relay coordination and earthing.

  • Electrical distributions & transmission - Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems & techniques.

  • Cables & Wires- Products and design techniques.

  • Electrical control systems - Design, equipment, and systems.

  • Design Criteria - Applications and improvements of technical knowledge into design criteria that suit project requirements and/ or support the design of new components/ equipment.

  • Technical Documentation -Ability to create, understand and communicate via technical specifications.

  • Plant Layout development -Ability to lay out the plant in a functional, safe, and cost-effective way.

  • Materials Fundamentals - Knowledge and understanding of basic information regarding materials and their properties used in engineering and manufacturing activities.

  • Construction & Commissioning - Understanding of on-site construction work and commissioning with associated contractor and supplier interactions.

  • Cost Estimation - Understand cost of design (including cost of deliverables generation) and ability to estimate costs related to a project or specific activity.

  • Procurement - Understand project cost control, budgeting, procurement, purchase-to-pay and supply chain management.

  • Good working knowledge of the OHS/ Mine Health Safety Act and Environmental Management principles, practices, and statutory requirements.


Project Management


  • Broad understanding of electrical infrastructure systems, protection & distribution requirements, commercial construction industry practices, construction contracts, and budget/schedule management. etc.

  • Highly motivated with strong business acumen, good inter-personal, influence, people management and business skills, together with a strong desire to lead by example and a firm belief in the power of teamwork.

  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.

  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant internal stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.

  • Ensure resource availability and allocation.

  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress.

  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.

  • Measure performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques.

  • Proven working experience in project execution through EPC/EPCM/Construction partners.


Leadership And Management


  • Report and escalate concerns to management as needed.

  • Manage the relationship with the client and relevant stakeholders.

  • Perform risk management to minimize potential risks.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/ vendors.

  • Meet with clients to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project.

  • Delegate project tasks based on junior staff members' individual strengths, skill sets, and experience levels.

  • Meet budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints based on financial analysis.

  • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members.
